Custom Shopify Theme
Some products and stories don't fit inside a template. We build a custom Shopify theme engineered around what makes yours worth buying.

A theme with as much character as the blade.
A knife maker forging Japanese blades and casting the handles from rescued kitchen plastic needed a storefront as considered as the product itself. A template would have flattened the craft into a grid of thumbnails.
We built the whole thing bespoke — a custom theme engineered around the craft, the story and the batches that sell out in minutes.
A store that sells the story, not just the spec
Get in touchWhen the template is the limit.
Template themes are built to fit as many stores as possible, which means they fit none of them exactly. Somewhere between the hero banner and the checkout, your product starts looking like everyone else’s.
A custom theme means custom code and custom sections, built around your product rather than adapted from someone else’s. It exists for the businesses where that gap costs sales:
- The product has a process or provenance worth showing — a making method, a material, a sourcing story a standard template has no layout for.
- Launches or drops need a page built for urgency and scarcity, not a generic product grid repurposed for the occasion.
- The brand has a visual identity strong enough that a recognisable template theme would actively undercut it.
- Product complexity — configurators, bundles, personalisation — goes beyond what a stock theme’s settings panel can express, and needs sections built specifically to hold it.
- The store needs to feel like the thing it sells, not like a shopfront borrowed for the afternoon.
Everything is designed and built from a blank canvas around your brand, your product and your customer — code and sections written for this store, not adapted from someone else’s starting point.
Custom Shopify themes, answered.
What does a custom Shopify theme cost?
It depends on how much of the store is bespoke versus how much can build on proven patterns. We scope the design and build together first, then give you a fixed, itemised quote before any work begins.
How is this different to customising an existing theme?
A customised theme starts from someone else's template and adapts it. A custom theme starts from your brand and product and is designed outward from there — no inherited layout decisions, no working around another theme's assumptions.
How long does a custom build take?
Measured in weeks rather than months, though a fully bespoke build naturally sits at the longer end of that range. You'll get a firm timeline once the design and scope are agreed, before any development starts.
Do we need a finished design before you start building?
No. Design and build usually run together, with design decisions tested against real Shopify constraints as they're made, rather than handed over as static files and rebuilt later to fit.
Will a custom theme still be easy to update after launch?
Yes. Bespoke doesn't mean fragile. We build custom themes with the same structure and documentation standards as any other build, so your team can make day-to-day edits without needing us for every change.
Who is a custom theme right for?
Brands where the product, story or launch model doesn't fit a template's assumptions. If a well-built customised theme would do the job, we'll tell you that up front.
